The Inn at Lonesome Hollow is a bed and breakfast situated on 160 rural acres just outside of  Soldiers Grove ,  a sleepy village located in the heart of the picturesque Kickapoo Valley and the famed Driftless Area in Southwest Wisconsin. The bed and breakfast is about one hour south of La Crosse , Wisconsin and 35 minutes northeast of Prairie du Chien . The Mississippi River, the Wisconsin River , and the Kickapoo River all converge here to help form the character of the land around our Wisconsin bed and breakfast . The bed and breakfast is only a short drive from some of these Southwest Wisc. villages and Northeast Iowa: Viroqua, Wisconsin, Richland Center, Wisconsin, Boscobel, Wisconsin, Marquette, Iowa, Lansing, Iowa and McGregor, Iowa. In the main Inn you will find 3 deluxe bedrooms, each with a private bath and gas fireplace; two of the inn's rooms have two-person whirlpool tubs for your relaxation.  Wireless internet is available at the main inn. Most of the bed and breakfast's furnishings are locally made by Amish craftsmen in the Cashton settlement. Amish quilts cover some of our beds. We can direct you to local Amish crafts people if you wish to explore furniture, quilt, or crafts purchases for yourself. Across from the main inn is the Cedar Cabin, a modern, two bedroom cabin with full kitchen, satellite TV, gas fireplace, air conditioning, and a wonderful deck and screenhouse. We welcome children and small dogs in the Cedar Cabin. Our newest house is located in the most private section of our valley.  The Homestead features two separate two-bedroom suites. The suites may be rented individually or the entire Homestead may be rented for groups of up to 8 people - four bedrooms, two baths, two whirlpools, two fireplaces, full kitchen, total privacy - a great group facility. Our little valley is a subset of the much larger and grander Kickapoo Valley and the Driftless Area, a part of the upper midwest which went unglaciated during the last glacier period and which has retained a rugged, hilly character unlike any other place in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. Our Wisconsin bed and breakfast inns are surrounded by steep hills more than three hundred feet tall. The Driftless Area is home to hundreds of clear running, spring fed streams, most of which hold a nice population of brook, brown, and rainbow trout. The Kickapoo Valley in particular offers excellent trout fishing in streams that are highly recommended by nationally recognized trout outfitters. Our bed and breakfast of Wisconsin offers a rugged Driftless Area landscape, a peaceful Kickapoo Valley setting, and some of the finest lodging accommodations in the region. Tourism in southwest Wisconsin's is only beginning to develop. Visitors from Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa are beginning to opt away from the overdeveloped Wisconsin tourism destinations such as the Wisconsin Dells and Door County for the more relaxed, more rural, and more comfortable confines of the magnificent Driftless Area. The Inn at Lonesome Hollow lies in the middle of the scenic Kickapoo Valley, which itself is part of the Driftless Area. The Driftless Area is attracting an increasing number of hikers, bicylists, canoeists, bird watchers, and trout fishermen. Even winter activities such as cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and ice fishing can be enjoyed in this rural, scenic part of Wisconsin. LaCrosse is home to fine downhill ski runs, Mt. LaCrosse, and nearby Westby hosts a Nordic ski jump each winter, with participants coming from across the US and from many foreign countries. Take a scenic drive through Crawford, Vernon, Grant, Iowa, LaCrosse, Monroe, or Richland Counties in Wisconsin. Or venture a little west to Allamakee, Clayton, or Dubuque Counties in Iowa. Or head northwest to Houston, Winona, or Wabasha Counties in Minnesota. The roads will lead you past small dairy farms, organic crop farms, as well as specialty farms that feature buffalo, elk, llamas, and emu. Southwest Wisconsin is developing into a region of quaint vineyards and wineries as well. Stop and sample the local wines at Vernon Vineyards in Viroqua, Weggy Winery in Richland Center, or Spurgeon Valley Vineyard and Winery close to Highland. Enjoy your wine with locally crafted Wisconsin cheese from Westby Creamery, Mt. Sterling Cheese, or Carr Valley Cheese in Fennimore. Amish settlements near Lonesome Hollow offer wonderful opportunities to purchase fine crafted furniture, incredible quilts, and a variety of hand-crafted items.
